Do you have some extra time on your hands so you’re looking to create a side hustle?

Maybe you’re just now starting to tackle debt. You know if you could come up with some extra money on the side, you would be able to knock those credit cards out quicker.

Maybe college is coming up for your child and you never saved like you wish you had and you want to help so they don’t go into debt like you did.

Although you have a full time job, maybe you aren’t making ends meet and you want options. A second job may be beginning to sound pretty nice.

However, the reason doesn’t matter. If you have the time and energy, why not earn something extra on the side?

This article is intended to give some ideas on creating multiple streams of income.

If you already have a pile of money sitting around, I suggest investing that into rental property and move on.

Next up is for the people that do not have that extra cash and they’re looking for side hustles.

Fiverr As A Side Hustle

I’m sure you’ve heard of Fiverr.com. Some people actually create careers out of offering side jobs on Fiverr. If you’ve got skills such as writing, editing, voice acting, design, digital marketing, photography…the list goes on and on…check it out. You may have to price your services lower at first to gain some positive reviews, but it’s worth putting in the effort.

If you want to try something like voice over, but aren’t sure where to start, Fiverr has a learning section called Fiverr Learn where you can educate yourself.

Sell Your Stuff

This is the quickest, easiest way to make cash. Although this may be a temporary side hustle at first, it could easily turn into something more.

I went into my closet one day after reading a book on minimalizing and looked at my clothing one by one and asked myself “Do I love this?”. The answer was no on most items.

Sell the expensive items yourself on an online website like Poshmark.

The cheap, no name brand clothing isn’t going to get you anything after shipping so don’t waste your time. Have a yard sale, sell the items “in bulk” or give them away.

If you have furniture in your attic that has been sitting there forever, combine the clothing with the furniture and have a yard sale. Again, this is the quickest and easiest way to make money but you have to put in the effort.

Check out my article on 50 items around your house you could sell quickly if you want some ideas.

On the other hand, you could sell other people’s stuff. There’s a huge market out there for flipping clothing and jewelry.

I read an article about a girl that visits thrift stores once a week, searching for “vintage” jewelry and clothing. She teamed up with Shopify and now flips these items for a profit.

Check out Money Crasher’s article on Thrift Store Flipping if this interests you.

Rent Out Something

Got an extra room in your house? Rent it out. You can list your room for rent on a website like Roomies.

Maybe you have a family member willing to give you $200 a week for a place to stay. That’s an amazing deal for them and a no brainer for you.

Renting out items is a super easy way to create side hustle cash without you putting in much work.

Got a pool? Rent it out. Try Swimply.com

If you’re anything like my family, once you have a pool, you don’t use it every weekend and won’t mind a few hours of swim time not available. I went to Swimply and searched my area and found someone very close to me renting out their pool for $25 an hour. Check your area and be competitive.

Got a truck, boat, RV? You can rent any of these out.

Craft Up An Idea

Are you crafty? Do you have something in mind you could already be selling? Maybe it’s something digital like consultations or a workshop.

Could you turn a hobby into a side hustle?

The possibilities are endless really. Figure out what people would buy from you.

If you want to create something – What type of tools do you already have? Do you love to sew or create amazing nail designs or design outfits or make headbands? There’s an endless list of things people make in their homes and sell.

If you are a crafty person, there has to be something that you enjoy doing and you’ve made for friends or family. Maybe you’ve only made it for yourself or your home but you’ve received some amazing compliments. Maybe you’re into wood design or painting or you just made your kid’s cheer team twenty-eight matching vinyl shirts and now you’re a pro with sick skills. Take those skills to the next level.

Side Hustle Around Town

Most likely your city/town has a Facebook page where it allows people to post their offerings. Maybe you have a library with an old school peg board that they let people put business cards up on.

Services you could offer:

  • Tutoring
  • Dog Walking
  • Babysitting
  • House Sitting
  • Grass Mowing
  • Mobile Car Wash
  • Senior Sitting
  • Grocery Shopping
  • Closet Organizing
  • Attic Cleanup
  • Garage Cleanup
  • Or just offer any side work that homeowners don’t want to do themselves.

I had a side gig as a Bartender at a yearly music festival in my town that I did for years. So let your friends and family know that you’re looking for work on the side.

Manage Social Media

My 16 year old daughter landed a job posting pictures on a social media site once a day, six days a week for $100 in cash per week. She heard through word of month that a local small business owner was looking for some help.

There are so many social media pages out there and owners of small businesses do not have the time to manage many of them.

Create a brief overview of your skills and then contact companies directly and see if they would be willing to use your services. You could create your own social media site that highlights what you are capable of, your writing style, and your dedication. Post a picture of yourself and a small bio so they know you’re a real person.

Fiverr Learn also has courses on Social Media Management.

Create A Blog As A Side Hustle

Did you know the average blogger makes $40,000 per year? That’s some serious side cash!

Plus – you could blog about your favorite thing in the world. Find a subject that you could write countless articles about and start blogging away.

Note that this does take dedication and drive as your results are not likely to be seen until about six months after your first blog. Stick with it and keep writing!

Check out BlueHost to get started. Only $2.95 per month.

Rent Yourself

That sounds bad – Maybe I should have typed “Rent Your Skills”.

Do you have a skill that is desirable? We talked about tutoring others…now let’s dig a bit deeper. Do you play guitar? You can Zoom with anyone in the country and teach your savvy guitar skills. Same goes for any instrument such as a piano or drums.

Maybe you’re a gymnast – ever thought about giving mental coaching lessons? My daughter had a mental block for years and I wish I could have found someone online that offered mental sports guidance.

This has been kind of sketch in the past because we don’t want to walk into people’s homes that we don’t know. With the world of video conferencing now, it’s the normal expectation and you wouldn’t even have to leave the comfort of your home.

Sell Your Photos Online As A Side Hustle

I went to Shutterstock and attempted to do this myself. I uploaded eight photos. Two immediately failed due to exposure issues. The other six took a few days to go through the approval process. Side Note: I do not take great photos.

Out of the original eight, one was accepted and now earning. Obviously, one photo is not going to set me up for life, but it’s a start.

Some other places to sell your photos: SmugMug Pro or 500px.

If taking photos is something you love, This is worth looking into as a side hustle.

When thinking of a side hustle, start by thinking about what you love and what you’re great at.

Not everyone is great at the same thing, right? How could you earn money from this skill that you have?

Yes, it may take a small amount of investing to get your product in the hands of consumers.

Start small and don’t give up. When creating this website, I almost gave up a million times. I saw other bloggers with websites on the same topic that I thought were so much better than mine.

The difference between us? They gave up and I kept writing, even when no one was listening.
