I have currently had my Amazon Prime Visa Card for almost one year. This is my first (and perhaps only) credit card review.

Let me start by saying that I am a huge lover of all things Amazon.

Two day shipping for most items plus I don’t have to step foot into a store? Brilliant.

I’m not a financial coach nor do I have any certification for anything that would interest any of you that are reading.

What I am is a mom who likes to save money, invest wisely, and spend intentionally. I like to cut corners where possible.

All of that being said, I’m here to give you my non-professional, tell-it-like-it-is, good ole’ review of my experience over the past year with my Amazon Prime Visa Card.

They are

Receiving An Amazon Prime Visa Card Offer

One day in 2024, I received an email from either Amazon or Chase offering me the Amazon Prime Visa Card. I was not in the market for a credit card.

However I was offered a $200 gift card to Amazon if I was approved and although I’m usually not swayed by shiny things, I applied.

I will say that I’ve done some research and this seems to be the highest offer they’ve given that I can find anyone posting about online. Currently, the offer once approved after applying seems to be a $100 Amazon gift card.

My application was immediately approved and processed and I was able to use approximately 20% of my total available balance on Amazon before the card even arrived in the mail.

The approval email also stated:

“Your new credit card will arrive in a plain, white envelope within two weeks. Once you have received your card, you can use it to make purchases wherever Visa credit cards are accepted.”

I received the card in the mail in about a week. Once I received and activated the card, I the full credit amount was available.

As to the amount I was given, it was larger than I was expecting.

I do pay my credit card balance in full every month, so having a higher than normal credit limit isn’t tempting for me.

The offer email also stated that the card had already been added to my Amazon account as my new default payment method.

If Dave Ramsey ever reads this: I know you hate credit cards. I know you don’t care that I pay my Amazon Prime Visa card in full every month. I know I’m breaking the rule. Love your show. 🥰

The Amazon Prime Visa Card Perks

Let’s start with exactly what the Amazon prime Visa Card says it offers:

  • Amazon.com – Earn unlimited 5% back on your Amazon.com purchases with an eligible Prime membership*
  • Amazon Fresh – Earn unlimited 5% back at Amazon Fresh online or in-store with an eligible Prime membership*
  • Whole Foods Market – Earn unlimited 5% back at Whole Foods Market online or in-store with an eligible Prime membership*
  • Chase Travel – Earn unlimited 5% back on Chase Travel purchases with an eligible Prime membership*
  • Gas Stations – Earn unlimited 2% back at gas stations*
  • Restaurants – Earn unlimited 2% back at restaurants whether you dine in or take out*
  • Local Commuting & Rideshare – Earn unlimited 2% back on local transit and commuting, including rideshare*
  • All other purchases – Earn unlimited 1% back on all other purchases anywhere Visa is accepted*

There are no foreign transaction fees. I went out of the country just before I purchased this card so I haven’t had a chance to give it a go in another country.

Chase Pay Over Time

Pay Over Time – “Get it now and pay over time with equal monthly payments”. I haven’t used this. If anyone has, feel free to drop a comment below.

I will say that I made a large purchase on my Amazon Prime Card and Amazon sent me an email offer to pay over time.

Right now in the Chase app, I can click on my Prime Card transactions, pick a larger amount (the one I’m clicking now is for $283.65), and I then I see an option that says “Chase Pay over time”. Specifically it says:

  • Chase Pay Over Time
    • Pay off your purchase over time for a fixed monthly fee and no interest.
    • Click to Start a Plan
    • 3 Options:
      • 3 Payments of $97.67. This amount includes a monthly fee of $3.12 with no interest
      • 6 Payments of $50.34. This amount includes a monthly fee of $3.06 with no interest
      • 12 Payments of $26.86. This amount includes a monthly fee of $3.22 with no interest
Additional Benefits Per my Welcome Email
  • Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver
  • Baggage Delay Insurance
  • Lost Luggage Reimbursement
  • Roadside Dispatch®
  • Travel Accident Insurance
  • Travel and Emergency Assistance Services
  • Extended Warranty Protection
  • Purchase Protection

Secret Perks

Sometimes at checkout, Amazon will offer me 6% back instead of 5% when I use my card if I choose a different delivery date.

For example, I just placed this Apple Watch into my Amazon cart. When I go to checkout, I see a delivery date of tomorrow for free. If I wait one more day and receive the watch the day after tomorrow, Amazon is offering me 6% cashback instead of 5%.

There are Prime Card Bonus Deals that earn you 6% – 25% (more maybe?) for a limited time on select items. Basically, you have your own little page on Amazon that tells you what the current Prime Bonus Deals are.

Rewards

The rewards earned usually show up in my Amazon account the day after a purchase. I have seen the rewards take up to 72 hours to appear.

The nice thing is that at checkout, Amazon has a toggle button where I can easily add whatever reward amount I’d like to my next purchase. There’s no minimum amount of rewards you have to accumulate in order to be able to use rewards.

You can also choose to use your rewards at Chase for cash back, gift cards, or travel. I have not used that option because I buy enough at Amazon to quickly eat up all my rewards. 😅

The Annual Fee

None.

There’s none.

I thought this needed it’s own section because of how much I can’t stand annual fees.

Honestly, I seriously thought that the only great credit cards were the ones with annual fees.

Amazon doesn’t do that to us. Thank you, Amazon. Please never make me have to edit this article to say that you’re now charging an annual fee. None of us want that.

HOWEVER you do have to be an Amazon Prime member. (Who isn’t?) The cost of the annual Amazon Prime membership is $139 per year or $14.99 per month. If you’re a student, that price goes down to $69 per year or $7.49 per month.

Other Reviews

I’ve done quite a bit of review research on this card.

Amazon has over 125,000 reviews on this card that you can find here.

With over 75% of those reviews giving it five stars, I would say that most people do love the card as much as I do.

For those that gave it less than a five star review, here’s what I’ve gathered:

  • Some individuals say that they were rejected for the card soon after receiving an approval email, and even sometimes after receiving the card in the mail.
  • Poor Customer Service from Amazon (I have personally never experienced any poor customer service from Amazon)
  • Hard credit inquiry for credit line increase
    • I haven’t experienced this either, but I have not requested an increase. Amazon has increased my credit without me asking and it was not a hard inquiry for me.
  • Other Application issues

None of these I experienced myself. My application process was actually completed in about two minutes and it wasn’t anything out of the norm.

What I Wish The Card Included

It would be really nice if this card gave you a free prime membership.

Instead of offering money for people to sign up, offer us free prime memberships. Even half off.

Give me a movie credit once a month…. an audible credit every now and then…something.

There’s also no intro 0% APR offer that I’ve found anyone being offered. Perhaps this will change in the future. This was not a concern for me as I don’t carry a balance, but most of the “junk mail” I receive consists of multiple cards offering 0% APR.

Am I going to cancel this card because it doesn’t give me any of the above (at least that I’m aware of – someone correct me in the comments section below if you’ve been offered freebies)? Heck no, I’m not going to cancel. I love my Prime Visa Card.

Amazon Prime Visa Card: Worth the Wallet Space?

After almost a year, I still love this card.

I love it mainly because I love Amazon and I was already paying for Amazon Prime.

It gives me my rewards super fast and I don’t even have to think about searching on another app or page to discover how much in rewards I currently have.

In early 2025, Amazon sent me a 2024 recap email. I had earned more than $250 rewards for the year, which by far pays for my annual Prime membership. The email broke down what I had earned in 5%, 2% and 1% back rewards, which I appreciate.
