Let’s explore ways you can make money doing makeup.
You’re probably here because makeup is your passion. You love trying out new things and creating a work of art. Plus, you’re great at your makeup hobby.
Perhaps your friends and family members beg you to come over and do their makeup before big events or even for a simple night out. You don’t mind because it’s your favorite hobby.
However….wouldn’t it be really cool if you could make money doing makeup since you love it so much?
I’m going to share a list of ways you could make money doing makeup and how to get started. Hopefully this puts you on the right path towards creating a side hustle with your makeup hobby.
Remember that you certainly do not have to choose only one way to make money. Keep your mind open to multiple income streams as you find your way.
Sell Your Makeup Services By Word Of Mouth
You start out by having your friends/family/co-workers offer your services.
Let them know that you’re trying to build a side hustle and make money doing makeup. You’d appreciate any referrals that they would be willing to give.
Consider broadening your reach by completing a few free events or ask for donations only. Don’t think of this as a waste of your time or energy, but investing in your future by banking on this person telling a few of their friends about how awesome you are.
Plus, you will be less stressed about being perfect if you aren’t charging someone for doing their makeup.
Create your own Facebook business page that highlights your services and ask your free clients to snap a pic and tag you.
Create Your Own Website
Creating your own website dedicated to your new business is a crucial step to make money doing makeup.
It’s also easy and cheap to get started.
You want something simple that basically lists your contact information, a review page to gain trust from new visitors, and a list of your services.
Check out Bluehost to get started. Websites start at as little as $2.95 per month.
For a domain name, I would suggest something like your first initial + last name or your full name.
If you have a rather common name and you’re having difficulty, think of something like “MakeupByJuliaS.com” or “JuliaSMakeup.com”.
You may have trouble finding .com domains with your name. However, I would suggest not giving up the .com for something like .net. Instead be creative with the domain name until you find a .com that you like.
Expanding Your Local Reach
Once you have your website up and going, consider using Canva to create and print your own business cards.
Start marketing yourself by leaving your business cards at places you know your clients will frequent.
For example, if you want to expand to doing makeup for bridal parties, visit local bridal stores, chat it up, and leave some business cards if they’ll allow you to. You want to form relationships with those already in the business that you are trying to get into.
Show Off With Videos To Make Money Doing Makeup
Create your own videos. Then post them on TikTok or YouTube.
Be creative and try to find something you can give the viewer that others don’t. What is unique about you and/or your makeup talents?
There are multiple ways to earn an income once you gain a following.
- Affiliate links. Perhaps you share a link in the comments section for all of the makeup items you’ve used in your video. Link to websites using Ulta’s Affiliate Program or my personal favorite – the Amazon Affiliate Program.
- Sponsorships. Once you have a following, brands may begin reaching out to you to showcase their products. Basically, you’ll make money doing makeup with their product and giving them a shoutout. But don’t only wait for people to reach out to you. Reach out to the brands you love.
- Finally, Ad Revenue – This will grow with time and the amount of videos you have. Don’t get discouraged – it is a long game.
Teach Doing Makeup
It’s going to take some time to build up a following.
However, I suggest going ahead and getting started creating some tutorial videos on your website that brings people back time and time again.
Once you have a following, you can not only profit by running ads on your website, you could have a “members only” section to get exclusive makeup lessons.
In addition to adding some videos, consider holding one-on-one “coaching” or group lessons. You could offer really unique, specific lessons for the group classes. For one-on-one classes, you could cater to whatever needs your client has.
Review Makeup
Do you love trying out new products?
There are multiple benefits to reviewing makeup.
First, it’s just fun giving your honest opinion on products. Second, this is a way to build a following. People could subscribe and be anxious to see what item you’re going to try out next. Third, this could be an income stream in multiple ways.
- Companies could start reaching out to you and asking you to review their product.
- You could share affiliate links to the product on other websites and earn a profit from every sale.
- The more visitors to your page or video, the more ad revenue you will earn.
Create Your Own Makeup
Start dabbling in creating your own makeup. This could take a backseat to the above topics, but most people will tell you that you make the most money by selling your own products.
You can still make money doing makeup – you’re just adding creating makeup into the mix.
Once you’ve created something you love, start using it in your videos and share a link to purchase.
I have an Etsy store where I sell a few items and I have to say that it was super easy to set up.
If you’re hesitant to create your own makeup, think about what else you could sell that people use to go with applying makeup. Do you have a great idea for a new makeup brush? Perhaps you would rather sell digital items and you want to create a “How-To” eBook with detailed pictures.
What if you made an eBook like “20 Top Makeup Looks For A Night Out” with pictures and step-by-step instructions on how to get each look. You could even have links to purchase the products and earn affiliate income when they use your link.
You can make money doing makeup by selling something you have created one time.

Final Thoughts How To Make Money Doing Makeup
If you want to have the potential to earn the most, step one would be creating your own website using Bluehost.
Start writing articles and creating your own videos that you can post. In the beginning, it will be hard building up your website. Staying motivated while hearing nothing from your viewers is difficult while you try to gain a following.
Create makeup videos and use your personality within those videos. If you’re having fun, most likely your viewers will feed off of your energy.
Finally, know that this is a long game and most likely will not come overnight. It took this website six months to even start ranking decently on Google search. The key is not to get discouraged. Many will and they will quit.
