A spa birthday party is such a fun theme to have for your favorite little girl!
A trip to the spa for one person can run you hundreds of dollars. Not only can you overcome spending thousands on sending your guests to an actual spa for this birthday celebration, but by having it at home you can also control the activities and get a whole lot more done in a shorter period of time.
This article is meant to get your DIY spa birthday party creative juices flowing so that you’re prepared to tackle this event in your home by yourself.
It can be done and it can be so much fun!
The keys to make this successful are setting the stage and having a game plan.
I’m a planner and I’ve had far more than my fair share of at-home birthday parties over the years.
We’ll cover quite a few things in this article so that your spa birthday party is a success:
- Invitations
- Spa Party activities
- Spa themed food
- Stations
- Spa Party Decor ideas
- Goody Bag Ideas that are Spa Themed
- And much more!
Let’s go!
Invitations
Now that you’ve picked the theme of your child’s birthday party, it’s time to work on the spa party theme invitations.
The great thing about a spa party is that it can be held at any time of the day.
If you want to have a sleepover after, I would suggest starting the party later in the evening so you’re only obligated to provide 3ish hours of spa activities and then the girls will be getting ready for bed.
Of course, this does depend on how old your birthday girl is. If she’s a teen, the party guests could very well be up until 4am.
Regardless, I would never start the party so late that you won’t be at the top of your party game. I’ve survived many late birthday parties by taking a nap in the middle of the special day.
Once a time is chosen, you can decide if you want to ask your guests to arrive in their pajamas or comfortable clothing. Or maybe you don’t care what they arrive in (I never have, unless we are painting).
Again, depending on the ages of your guests, you may want to ask them to arrive makeup free. However, be ready with some makeup remover wipes or cleanser just in case.
I suggest Canva for digital creation of anything – including invitations. This one was made in less than five minutes using a template that Canva already had available.
Playlist
I truly feel that music can make or break a party.
That being said, you want a playlist that will get your guests in the mood to be pampered. You want it create an environment where it feels like they are actually having a spa day.
I’ve thought quite a bit on this. When I go have a massage or a facial, there are only sounds in the background.
I think that playing spa music like this with water sounds is extremely relaxing and I absolutely love it. You may consider mixing this into your playlist or solely having sounds in the background.
Regardless, I believe a happy medium between a fun birthday party and the relaxing vibe you want to give because it is spa day themed is to have a mix with acoustic versions of songs.
Think Fields of Gold by Kina Grannis
Or State of Grace (Acoustic Version) by Taylor Swift
If you listen to it and want to close your eyes and relax, it’s a good fit. Get your party girl’s thoughts on the playlist – you may even want her to pick out all the songs herself.
Set Up Your Space
Now it’s time to pick where you want to set up your spa birthday party space.
This could be your living room, playroom, a bedroom, a dining room, a garage, or even outside.
The party room can be wherever you designate it to be.
The key is have a space that you can clear out and set up just how you want it. It’s always easier to start with an empty space and build from scratch.
Think of a calming space without clutter.
The light should be soothing and not too bright – utilize candles and dim lighting.
I absolutely love WoodWick Candles – not only for the scent but for the crackling sound.
I would suggest having each girl a seat for when she arrives with perhaps a bag of goodies for her, depending on your budget for the party.
The vision is a chair with a towel, robe, slippers, mask, and a headband. This really depends on how much you personally want to put into the budget. Think extra cozy.
If you don’t have enough chairs, consider getting large, comfy pillows and placing them on the floor so the girls can sit and relax while everyone is arriving.
Pick a color scheme and stick to it…. pastel colors – light blue, light pink, light green or lavender.
Stations
Set up stations that your party guests can filter through. You’ll need to enlist some help for some of the stations so if you have another family member or friend willing, ask them to help you with the party. Older siblings work too!
I like to set a timer for stations at a birthday party so everyone knows when it’s time to get up and head to the next station.
I would suggest 15 minutes for each station.
So, if you have 10 party guests, you could set up five stations that take two girls at a time.
Spending 15 minutes at each of the five stations would take a total of one hour and fifteen minutes.
Now let’s get to the ideas for the stations!
- Toe painting station
- Mini Manicure station
- Bath Bomb creation station
- Hair Braiding or curling station
- Sheet Mask Facial station
- Meditation/Yoga station
- Foot mask station
- Foot soak station
- Flip flop decorating station
- Nail filing and painting station (or perhaps let the girls choose if they’d like press on nails)
- Make sure you have a variety of nail polish colors
You absolutely could combine some of these stations into one.
However, I would suggest not trying to do too much in the allotted time frame. You don’t want the guests to feel rushed. Afterall, it’s a relaxing spa day party!
Spa Party Day Food
Think charcuterie boards…fresh fruit…cucumber slices…sparkling beverages…
Keep it light.
Some ideas:
- Virgin Mimosas – Ginger ale and orange juice
- Sparkling white grape juice (it’s all about presentation – put them in plastic wine glasses)
- Pink lemonade (also in plastic wine glasses)
- Rainbow Fruit Skewers – Basically get some skewers, cut up your fruit, and add them one by one
- Meat and cheese board (add in some more fruit!)
- Sandwiches cut smaller utilizing cookie cutters (love these mask ones on Amazon)

Be Organized with a Plan
The key to getting this done efficiently and smoothly is to have a game plan.
Make an agenda for the day that looks something like this:
- 3:00pm Guest Arrival
- 3:00 – 3:20 – Girls pick their spots, put on their spa robes, tie their hair back, and take photos with some spa day photo props
- 3:20 – 3:30 – Girls snack and drink their virgin mimosas as you explain the rotation of the stations and how it’ll work. You set the first timer at 3:30(ish – give yourself some wiggle room here) for 15 minutes so it’ll alert you at 3:45
- 3:30 – 3:45 Station one!
- 3:45 – 4:00 – Station two!
- 4:00 – 4:15 – Station three!
- 4:15 – 4:30 – Station four!
- 4:30 – 4:45 – Station five!
- 4:45 – 5:00 – Snacks, drinks, and Spa Day bingo cards. Spa prizes for the winners!
- 5:00 – 5:30 – Birthday cake, cupcakes and perhaps presents if you like opening them at the party
- 5:30 – Free play
- 6:00 Pick up time
I’m a stickler for a great to-do list and agenda. However, these are kids. Know that you’ll need to be flexible. If you find you need to change the stations from 15 minutes to 20 minutes in the middle of station 2, do it and cut the bingo card game into only two rounds.
I like keeping free play for thirty minutes at the end of the party so if you do need to go over time on something, you have some buffer room at the end of the party that can be eaten up or shortened.
Party Favors
If you offered a robe, blanket, slippers/flip flops, headbands, or any other supplies to each individual girl, this is your opportunity to use them in the goody bag that the guests take home.
This is another reason that I love the idea of having a station or two where the girls make something. It’s another item that can serve as a party favor that the guests can take home with them.
If you offered nothing, or you’d like to add some additional items to your goody bags, here’s a list of items off of Amazon that you can buy in bulk and add to your bags:
Or if you want an easier way out (and who doesn’t!) here’s a list of offerings that come with multiple items:

Final Thoughts on Your Spa Birthday Party
Keep it simple!
Spa days are relaxing.
I do feel like some background music is a must-have at a spa party, as it can get quiet as everyone is at their station or relaxing.
Let your child have input. If she wants to have a station where they paint a picture of an elephant, let her have her station.
If you have a guest that doesn’t want to participate in a particular station for whatever reason, let her pick her favorite station and do that one twice.
Enlist help! It can get overwhelming with a bunch of little girls running around. To help keep it organized and efficient, make sure you have at least one person around that you can trust to help you make things run smoothly.
Remember:
- Have everything you can ready to go days before the party.
- Set up the area at least the day before.
- The only thing left to do day before/day of should be the food.
- Knock out putting the goodie bags together days before the event so they are out of your mind.
- Have a schedule!
- Be flexible – things don’t always go how you planned and that’s ok.
- Kids feed off our energy so be excited for their spa day so they have the best spa experience!
