Looking to create a relaxing Spa Day at home without spending Spa-like dollars?
Occasionally, we all need to unwind and take care of ourselves. We get caught up with kids, schoolwork, work, balancing events and caring for others. Sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves.
As you read through this article, remember that a spa day at home can be created on any dollar amount – that includes $0.
Let me help you create a spa day in the comfort of your own home without breaking any budget you have set.
Silence Is Needed
If you can, schedule your spa day when you’ll be home alone with minimal interruptions.
Take the day off work. Vacation days do not have to be spent on crazy planned vacations that are exhausting. Often, when I schedule a trip with the family to somewhere like Disney World or even to the beach, I’m exhausted when we get back. It was everything but relaxing for me.
If you have the available vacation days, feel guilt-free using them on yourself. You unquestionably deserve it.
Schedule your own spa day when the kids are at school or with family.
Also, let everyone know that you’re taking a day for yourself and would appreciate minimal interruptions.
If you’re taking the day off work, make sure your close co-workers know that you’re taking some ‘me time’ to unwind so they can help limit anyone reaching out to you.
Preparation
First, I would make sure the house is clean before my spa day. Having a house in chaos with the kids’ items all over the place does not put me in a relaxed mood. I feel like I have to clean.
With that being said, make sure the family knows of your special spa day well in advance of the big day. You need their help making this day as relaxing for you as possible so you can re-enter the world on top of your game.
Clear your schedule for the day. Basically, do not have a dentist appointment in the middle of the day.
Make sure you have built in plenty of free time so you are not rushed through this special day.
Planning Your Day
When you go for a spa day at a fancy place, they plan your entire day. You’re on a strict schedule.
You may have a little free time in-between your massage and pedicure for example, but usually you’re shuffled from one room to the next.
In the career articles I have written, I often talk about how to create your daily work to-do list with blocks of time.
Similarly to how you create a to-do list with designated times at the office, do the same for your spa day. If you’ve scheduled a bubble bath and it’s taking a little longer than you expected, shift the plan around. The list is simply for reference so that you have all the preparations made prior to your big day.
Example Spa Day To-Do List:
- 9:00 – 10:00 Facial (Cleanse, Steam, Exfoliate, Massage, Face Mask)
- 10:00 – 10:15 Prepare bubble bath (Run water, candles, music, towels prepped)
- 10:15 – 10:45 Bubble bath time
- 10:45 – 11:00 Body Scrub
- 11:00 – 11:30 Lunch time (pre-planned meal)
- 11:30 – 12:30 Mani/Pedi
- 12:30 – 1:00 Massage
- 1:00 – 1:30 Meditation
When I create a to-do list with times, I always leave extra room. Make your schedule fit the available time you have without feeling like you are rushed from one thing to the next.

Spa Day Ideas That Will Fit Your Budget
Now let’s look at some ideas for your special spa day. Pick the ones that are appealing to you. Not everyone likes the same types of services offered.
Note that I previously gave time suggestions for each spa event, however, the time you spend is completely up to you. After all, this is your day.
1. Spa Day Facial
I love a great facial. There are basically five steps to it.
Allure has a great article on DYI Facials: How to Give Yourself a Spa-Level Facial at Home, According to Experts.
I’m definitely not a beauty expert by any means, but I have had my share of facials. Although the article above suggests using a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head for steam, I have a face steamer that I use often. I have a thing for keeping my pores clean and if your budget allows, I would recommend this unit.
When thinking of face masks, I prefer to use a brush to glide it onto my face. I’ve never been a fan of sheet masks. SHVYOG Turmeric Vitamin C Clay Mask is highly recommended.

If you want to take this one step further and your budget allows, try these Fivewan 24k Gold Under Eye Patches that are less than $12.00 currently on Amazon.
2. Spa Day Bubble Bath
OMG I love a good bubble bath – especially with zero interruptions.
First, have everything you need laid out around your bathtub. Grab a small pillow from a couch or fold up a larger towel to create a pillow for your neck and head.
I personally like to read while I’m taking a bath. Take a moment and think about what your ideal bath atmosphere would be. It may be creating a relaxing play list and having that ready to go or sitting in complete silence with a warm cloth over your eyes.
I absolutely love candles and they set the mood for everything in my life, (I have three burning right now) so I would make sure to have those ready to go.
When it comes to the bubbles themselves, I did some online research and all of the DIY bathtub bubble makers required me to purchase an item that I didn’t already have in my home. Plus, I don’t like taking chances with my skin.
That said, here is a link to Dr Teal’s Pure Epsom Salt, Soothe & Comfort with Oat Milk & Argan Oil, 3lbs. It’s a little less than $6 currently on Amazon, which is also worth me not attempting to mix my own.

3. Spa Day Body Scrub
I’ve only ever had one body scrub on a spa day. In my opinion, these are pretty expensive and I’d rather spend my hard earned spa money on a facial.
That said, the one body scrub I had was magical and my skin felt so smooth afterwards.
I would recommend MAJESTIC PURE Himalayan Salt Body Scrub with Lychee Oil for a fantastic at home body scrub.
Alternatively, if you would rather not use oil or other products on your skin, these Seraphic Skincare Korean Exfoliating Mitts are highly rated on Amazon.
4. Spa Day Your Nails
I consider doing my own nails work and not relaxing. If it were on my spa day list, I would dread getting to this one.
Spa days should be relaxing and refreshing. The hand/feet portion of my spa day would consist of these hand and foot masks.
I would then spend a small amount of time touching up my nails and applying a polish, which could all be done with items you already have.
Cater this section of your day to your wants. Perhaps you want to skip it altogether and that’s perfectly fine!
5. Spa Day Massage
A massage does not have to be limited to someone else rubbing your back while you’re face down.
Perhaps you spend extra time in the shower massaging your scalp.
Maybe you sit on the couch and give your feet a much needed 20 minute rub.
You could have a massage chair that you haven’t utilized in a while that was waiting for you to have some free time to use. Or if you have a hand held massager, focus on parts of your body that need it the most.
6. Spa Day Meditation
What your time meditating looks like will most likely not look the same as the next person’s.
This is your time to concentrate on you. Practice breathing exercises or do yoga. Sit in silence and think of your personal or career goals. Write in a journal about things you are wanting to get out of your mind.
This is time for you to unwind your thoughts. Believe in yourself and what you can accomplish by writing down your goals.
7. Spa Day Snacks And Beverage
I’m a mimosa loving girl myself. What type of drink do you love when you’re relaxing? Consider something sparkling and refreshing to have readily available to you throughout your spa day.
Alcoholic or not, place it in a champagne glass to make yourself feel extra special.
Prepare a tray of fruits and/or veggies and place them in the refrigerator the night before. Take mini breaks in-between your spa treatments to indulge yourself.
Key Takeaways For Your Spa Day
Your spa day should be adjusted to fit your wants and needs. If you have a pool, you may find time to float in the sun.
A lip mask may be important to you and that’s where you want to spend some of your spa day budget.
Perhaps you have $0 in your budget and you want a day for yourself. There are so many items on this list that require you to spend nothing. Shift the suggestions slightly to meet your needs, current inventory, and budget. Do you want to enjoy a bath, but torn on spending the money on bubbles? So forget the bubbles. Instead, run yourself a hot bath and relax with your head placed on a rolled up towel.
Finally, know that the important thing is to concentrate on yourself and unwind. You’re investing in your mind and body on this spa day.
Enjoy it!
