Rough month, guys!
Rough for a couple of different reasons.
But let me start this out by saying that having a blog is rewarding. It feels this way for a few different reasons. The reasons I love having a blog:
- I can write about whatever I want and I’ve always loved writing.
- I’m learning something new every day and it’s opened my eyes to a whole world.
- Someone said “WordPress” the other day in casual work conversation and I knew EXACTLY what they were talking about. My family knows I have this blog and a couple of really close friends, but no one outside of that.
- It’s taking me out of my comfort zone, which I’m glad I’m facing.
- My blog is all about saving money, earning more, etc… It helps me stay focused on my personal goals.
- I spend so much more of my time focused on ways to build my retirement faster.
So does my blog earn money? Barely, guys. Actually, I lose a little bit of money when all expenses are applied.
Now let’s get into what went wrong (and a little right) in March.
Google Hates Me ☺
Yep, I pissed off Google.
I did a few things to piss him off. (Yes, Google is a He for some reason in my mind.)
Like previously noted, I changed all of my URLs in March to stop including the date. I want my content to be evergreen. I should have done this months ago.
Let me show you what happened.
Yeah. Google hated me after I did it and I have yet to recover.
This, paired with this time of year is crazy in my personal life, equaled less involvement in the website.
I’m not sure what will fix this. I’m assuming time. It’s been about a month since the change.
Less Writing
March, April, and May are absolutely insane this year with my real job and personal schedule.
I’ve got a kid graduating, it’s competition season for another, and I barely have a moment to myself during the work week.
I’m not stressing about the website during this time. I’ve realized that my personal obligations to my kids are taking a front seat, real job second, and the website is a distant third for now.
However, my workload drops off a cliff at the end of May and I am determined to come back at full speed.
So less writing now, but its temporary. In the meantime, I am trying to build up my Pinterest boards and make notes of writing ideas on my phone as they pop into my mind throughout each day.
Where I Stand Website Income Wise
Well, as you can imagine, with the falling off a cliff in impressions, my income from the website has gone nowhere.
Income in March 2024: $13.58
Left to hit Goal by 2036: $249,860.84 😅
The Rest of The Goals
All of the goals are on hold until June.
Personally, I’ve got to get through the rest of April and May before I can start holding myself accountable and sticking to my plan.
I don’t think I’ll be updating much until June on where I am on income from the website and the goals. So here’s to hoping I have something amazing to say in June once life returns to normal!
In my free time, which is very little, I do plan to write and post a few articles to at least keep the website active.
So right now the main goal: Get through life until June 1st. Come June, we go back to posting one article a week and getting Google to like me again.
Yay for almost summer! Boo for pissing Google off!
