I decided to write a SwitchBot Air Purifier review after purchasing this item because my kids said my living room smelled like a dog kennel.

Yes, we have a few dogs. One large dog that sheds like crazy and no endless amount of outside brushing or bathing seems to keep my living room from smelling.

I’m not an air purifier expert, but I will say that I know more than the average person after researching air purifiers and using this particular SwitchBot air purifier for quite some time.

So this is not a technical review, but your average working mom’s review of an item that made a difference in the smell of her home and saved on the cost of burning candles every day.

Why the SwitchBot?

I was scrolling through Facebook reels in bed when I saw someone post the SwitchBot version with a table.

I’m currently remodeling my living room space and I was in the market for a end table already so I figured this could knock out two birds with one stone. Gain an end table and make the room smell better.

Then when I went on to Amazon to decide if I wanted to purchase the SwitchBot air purifier with the table top, I saw the regular model without the top was about $75 cheaper.

Did I really need the table top?

I started reading the reviews and saw one that said the table top wasn’t very sturdy, although they liked the fact that they could charge their phones on top of the table.

I thought of my kids and how they place drinks on the side table. Immediately, I imagined some weird smoothie contraption my youngest made exploding all over the rug.

Then I started seeing ads for a Levoit air purifier. I was torn.

Levoit seems to be the go-to model for air purifiers. They obviously know what they are doing.

But ultimately, I landed on this SwitchBot air purifier:

What is CFM?

I noticed that the SwitchBot air purifier had a slightly higher CFM than the other models I was looking at.

CFM of SwitchBot air purifier: 236

Per Airpurifiers.com’s aritcle on “What is CFM“: “CFM matters because it directly impacts how quickly and efficiently your air purifier or fan can circulate and refresh the air in a room. So, if you’re trying to remove allergens from the air or ensure proper ventilation, understanding CFM helps you choose the best device for the job.”

The SwitchBot said it can cover a house that is 3,620sqft in an hour.

This is significantly larger than the room I planned to put it in, but it’s also somewhat of an open area so if it covers more than that single room, great.

All of this being said, I still know very little about CFM, but I do know that the SwitchBot had the best price point I could see with this high of a CFM.

Pet Smells and Pet Hairs

Another reason why I chose the SwitchBot air purifier is the fact that it literally says it’s for pets in the Amazon title.

It wasn’t another filter I had to buy specifically for pets.

It wasn’t listed somewhere in the description that it would handle pet smells and hairs.

The title specifically said it was for pets and that’s exactly what I originally wanted an air purifier for.

Light Color

You can customize the light color to be any color you’d like.

I keep it on auto, which means that the light will display what your air quality is like in the room.

  • Blue – Very Good:
  • Green – Good
  • Yellow – Moderate
  • Red – Bad

I’ve only seen the blue while it’s in auto mode.

The brightness is also adjustable, although I like the light and keep it on bright. There’s also moderate and soft options.

It’s also super cool that the light will automatically go off when it detects low ambient light. I noticed this when I kept the light in my bedroom for one night while I was playing with the settings.

When I turned my nightstand lamp off, the SwitchBot’s light turned off automatically as well.

You can change this and keep it on or off all the time in settings if you’d like.

Here’s me running through the different light colors:

The SwitchBot App

I had literally zero issues connecting to the SwitchBot air purifier through the app.

You can set up schedules for when you what the purifier to turn on, off, or go into sleep mode. You also can schedule it for which level you want it to run at.

I haven’t set mine on a schedule, as leaving it on auto has worked for me. Occasionally, I’ll manually turn it on Pet Mode for a bit.

Pet Mode is pretty loud, but I find it to be a comforting white noise.

However, the minimum operating noise is only 20dB, which is super quiet. I don’t even realize it’s in the room when it’s on a lower level.

I went through hell with the Aiper Pool Cleaner app, so I was a little nervous connecting this device, but it was so simple.

Specific App Features

  • Child Lock toggle

There’s a Child Lock toggle, which you can turn on if you don’t want a child messing with the buttons.

I haven’t had a need for this function.

  • Do Not Disturb

There’s also a “Do Not Disturb” option, which turns off all lights and sound. You can put this on a schedule to run in the future.

  • NFC

This is too techy for me. The app says “You can pair SwitchBot Tag with your devices through NFC for speedy communication”. If anyone has done this and it’s cool, drop a comment.

  • Matter

I haven’t set this up either, but you can if you have an iPhone and a HomePod Mini/Apple TV, which we do have, but I don’t think I need this as the app provides everything I need.

  • Environmental Data

It has a little graph that shows the history of my room’s air quality.

  • Care & Maintenance

I love that it will tell me how much life my filter has left. Right now it has 96% or 4,163 hours remaining.

It also tells me that I need to clean the pre-filter every 2-4 weeks, which is super simple.

SwitchBot the Company

Ok for real – SwitchBot is cool.

Why had I never heard of this company?

While researching if this was the air purifier I wanted to purchase, I visited SwitchBot’s website, which made me want to buy one of every single item they sell.

There’s this door lock that has facial recognition. “The world’s first retrofit smart lock that supports 3D facial recognition.”

If I weren’t remodeling a bathroom and had more room in the budget right now, there’s a ton more SwitchBot items I’d want to give a go.

Final Thoughts on the SwitchBot Air Purifier

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Literally does everything I needed.

After I purchased this air purifier, I decided I needed another one for my bedroom and heard great things about Levoit so I purchased LEVOIT Air Purifier for Home Allergies Pet Hair in Bedroom (Core 300-P).

This air purifier also does a fabulous job, but I didn’t realize when I purchased it that it isn’t smart and does not have all of the app features that I love so much with the SwitchBot air purifier.

Perhaps if I had purchased the Levoit first and never knew how much I’d love the SwitchBot air purifier, I’d be writing this article about the Levoit.

One day perhaps I’ll give Levoit’s smart air purifiers a try.

But for now, the SwitchBot is giving me everything I hoped it would give me and so much more.

My house doesn’t smell like a dog kennel any longer, the kids are happy, and I’ve got a cool new device and app to play with on my phone.
