I’m giving you my personal review of Walmart+. Nobody paid me to say any of this and every opinion here is solely my own.

The question is: Is Walmart+ worth it to me?

Next month, I’ll have had the Walmart+ subscription service for two years.

Spoiler: I’ve currently canceled the renewal on my Walmart plus membership due to sitting down and evaluating the cost vs benefits. I’m already getting emails about “early exclusive access” Black Friday deals and it is tempting to sign back up but I’m holding strong for now.

I tend to review everyday products and subscriptions based on whether they actually save money long-term, which is the same approach I took when testing popular home items like the Woozoo fan.

Why I Signed Up For Walmart+

Let me start by saying that my family is a Target family. My kids love going to Target for no other reason than to walk the aisles and run into other kids that they know.

They also spend around $50 while they are in Target, which is fine as long as they are their strict $200 a month budget. 🙂

However, this article is about Walmart and Walmart+. If Target had some sort of membership deal, I’d probably try that as well.

So, when Walmart originally came out with Walmart+, I didn’t think that it was something I would try.

It all started when Walmart told me that I could get free access to early Black Friday deals if I signed up for Walmart+.

Great job, Walmart Marketing.

They also had a trial period so I thought: what could it hurt. I’ll cancel after the trial period is up and catch all the Black Friday Deals.

  • Black Friday Deals = Personal weakness I’m getting better at resisting
  • Free trial period = No risk (or so I would tell myself)

At the time, I didn’t know the other benefits and didn’t care. It was 100% for the Black Friday deals.

Worth It For Black Friday Deals?

Eh, I did purchase some of my Christmas presents through the early access Black Friday deals. However, some of these deals were still live when the deals opened to the general public (aka not Walmart+ members).

Also, I purchased some items that I probably wouldn’t have purchased if I wasn’t blinded by the fact that I was a VIP Walmart+ member that was getting access to deals that other people weren’t getting.

I just had to snag the deals before the commoners did!

I got a pretty amazing deal on the following:

  • AirPod Pros – Saved $80, but this is off of retail price
  • Pet Vacuum – Supposedly saved $249 and I do really love this vacuum. I was not in the market for a new vacuum at the time, but for $65.99, I took a chance

I also don’t purchase for as many children as I used to. I’m a really picky gift giver and I don’t like buying the generic stuff that you see every year.

I can say that I saved over what the annual membership is in Black Friday deals that I purchased. However, I could have purchased half of those without being a Walmart+ member for the same amount.

I also purchased, stupidly, one item that I didn’t even really want/need. It was only $20, but still…

So my personal answer is no, it’s not worth if for only the Black Friday deals. If you’re more disciplined than I am or you have more people to buy for than I do, this may be worth it to you.

Grocery Purchasing Utilizing Walmart+

After Black Friday was said and done, I didn’t cancel and was charged the (currently priced at the time of this writing) $98 yearly membership.

So yeah, didn’t cancel before it ended, which I should have known that I wouldn’t.

But this gave me an opportunity to try the grocery services through Walmart+.

I use emeals to plan out my weekly grocery list dependent upon the meals that I am planning for the week. emeals will send your grocery list to your Walmart app, which is a total win for me!

I started completing Walmart+ weekly grocery ordering. It is SO convenient.

I can’t say enough great things about ordering through the app…picking up on Sunday every week…and having everything ready to go for all the meals for the week. I was saving a ton of cash by planning ahead and I felt like an organizational mastermind.

I’ve found that being intentional about what I buy, whether it’s groceries or cookware, makes a big difference, which is why I also shared my honest experience with Carote cookware and whether it’s actually worth the price.

Fast Forward

Grocery online ordering went downhill.

Look, I’m not knocking Walmart as a whole. My kids don’t want to go walk their aisles, but they usually have everything on my grocery list when other stores may not.

Sometimes I would wait an hour for them to bring out my order even though it was ready and I alerted them that I was on my way. 50% of the time, all was good. 30% of the time, I’d wait 20-30 minutes. 20% of the time, it was 30 minutes plus.

My kids would say “you could have done all the shopping in store and been home by now“. They were right.

And then it got worse. They started leaving out items. I would call and they would refund each item that was missing and be very nice over the phone.

The last time, which was about a month ago, I was missing half my items. It was Sunday night and now I couldn’t make any of the meals I had planned for the week and it was too late to go out and pick everything up. I still had to figure out what was missing so I had to go down the list and cross items off.

This kind of traumatized me and I was officially done. I canceled my Walmart+ membership a week after.

January 2026 Update: Pickup has been fantastic the last 3 months. The guys who bring out my order are super nice, I haven’t missed a single item in my order for three months, and the longest I had to wait in my car was 20 minutes but the average wait time has been 10 minutes.

Free Delivery From Store

I did try the free grocery delivery from store once.

At the time of this writing, there are three options for delivery from my local store:

  • Express Delivery – $10.00 ($19.95 without Walmart+)
  • Three Hours or Less – $5.00 ($14.95 without Walmart+)
  • Tomorrow – Free ($9.95 without Walmart+)

Every now and then, Walmart+ would send me an email asking me to try Express Delivery for free. They finally got to me and I decided to give it a try.

Everything was in the order. I made a note asking for the delivery driver to place it at the front door and they did just as asked.

Why didn’t I switch to this instead of going to the headache and time of picking it up myself?

The tipping is why. When you’re checking out, it asks if you want to tip your delivery driver. I can’t not tip and I’m also cheap and don’t want to pay additional for something that I know I can do myself.

Walmart does specifically say that tipping is optional and not required by any means. However, I can’t not tip.

So I used Walmart+ Express delivery one time, tipped, and never used it again because I’m cheap.

Paramount Plus For Free

Currently, Walmart+ members can get a Paramount+ subscription for free.

For some, that’s a pretty big deal. That equates to $59 per year (annual plan).

So basically, if you were paying for a Paramount+ subscription already and you purchase the Walmart+ membership for $98 per year, the Walmart+ membership is really only costing you $39 annually.

Now, if you weren’t already a Paramount+ member and you wouldn’t have purchased it on your own, I would not be calculating this savings. It’s not a true savings if you weren’t already paying for it or planning to buy it in the near future.

All The Perks

Let’s make a list of all the perks…per the last time I checked the Walmart website

  • Free Delivery from store (not including any tipping you choose to give)
  • Paramount+
  • Early Access Deals
  • Member prices on fuel
  • Auto Care (Free flat tire repair ($15 value))
  • Mobile Scan & Go (I never did this)
  • No order minimum order for Free Shipping

I also see a newer benefit (at least one I hadn’t seen before) for Burger King – 25% off mobile orders. I’m not spending much time on this one as I haven’t yet tried it. I’m not a huge Burger King fan.

Final Thoughts on Walmart+

The thing is, I didn’t need Walmart+ to order online and pick up. I can still do that.

Maybe after a few months, I’ll feel less traumatized and I’ll give this a go again. I’m not saying all Walmart locations are like this, I’m sure they are not. My location may have been going over personnel changes or who knows what.

But the fact of the matter is, I wasn’t getting quite what I wanted out of Walmart+. If there’s something on Paramount+ that I just have to watch, I may consider the Walmart+ membership again.

I use Costco for my gas, but the Walmart+ member fuel prices may offset the $98 annual membership for you.

If you do majority of your holiday shopping at Walmart, the early access deals could also offset the $98 membership.

You may be paying for delivery from a store. If you are, the free delivery could also easily rack up to $98.

If you currently have a Walmart+ membership and you’re considering canceling, ask yourself the following:

  • Am I getting membership benefits every month that outweigh the membership cost
  • Do I have other debt that could use this $98 a year
  • Should I perhaps pause the membership and see if I miss it?

For me, it didn’t add up, but I could see how it could for many people.

I treasure my Amazon Prime membership and Amazon prime visa card. I could not imagine a world where I didn’t have it. Prime Video is also a huge plus of the Prime membership program.

The feeling, at least currently, isn’t quite the same with the Walmart+ membership.

The question “is Walmart+ worth it?” does lean more towards yes for those that are frequent Walmart shoppers.

2026 Update

It’s now a few days until 2026 and I’ve made it through the Christmas chaos without Walmart+.

However, their speedy order pickup has me considering trying the service again.

When I was ordering pickup from other stores, I missed the ability to pick from the variety of items that Walmart has.

But what benefits do I get for paying for Walmart+? I think they should start some type of rewards program. That would hook me into paying a subscription fee.

Right now, I wouldn’t gain anything by joining Walmart+ again.

If you do use the delivery service, having the subscription for free delivery would be worth it.

The original reason I became a member of Walmart+ was to gain access to their Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Now that Black Friday and Christmas are behind me, I can say that I never needed it.

So Walmart – Please offer a reward system for Walmart+. If it were 2% cash back, (maybe 5% on items you’re trying to get rid of), the cost of Walmart+ would make sense for me.

Mostly, Walmart+ saves me time. I have plenty of time, it’s just easier to order online instead of getting dress and shopping in person. I basically eat the same things because my stomach is very sensitive and I very seldom use substitutions. For sure, I spend more money using Walmart+, and that is not counting the tip that I give each time. I feel obligated to give a tip. Just like restaurants when you order to go, the quality and quantity of food is not the same. I feel this way about Walmart+; I don’t check every item before the driver leaves and I have found the quality of items falls drastically. I think management has a lot to do with that, but that’s just my opinion. If the manager is on top of the employees, customers would be much happier with the Walmart+ service.

I agree with you – the quality of the food received isn’t as good as what we would pick out for ourselves. It’s definitely the convenience for me. Thank you for commenting!
